Hotel Calafia Dance Fiesta in Rosarito Beach
Dance exhibition and dance lessons are coming soon to Hotel Calafia. Bud Hulst and his wife, Linda, have come to town to present a dance exhibition show and to teach dance lessons. For weeks, Bud scoured the town, looking for a wooden dance floor. Behind the Rosarito library was the perfect room with a beautiful dance floor, but officials told him he could not use the room past 8:00 p.m. and no liquor could be served. Furthermore, if a more important event were scheduled, the dance fiesta would get bumped. Finally, Bud and Linda met Conrado Acevedo, Owner and General Manager of Hotel Calafia. They were surprised by Sr. Acevedo’s enthusiasm. When they asked if they could use the hotel’s beautiful dance facilities, Sr. Acevedo said, “Yes, by all means. It will bring lots of people to the hotel, and my wife and I love to dance. We won’t need to travel to San Diego for our West Coast Swing lessons any more!” Seven years ago, when Bud was 68 years old and Linda was 57, they took their first West Coast Swing Dance (WCS) lesson in Solana Beach, CA. Now they are bringing dancing to Hotel Calafia. The dance studio will offer lessons in WCS, East Coast Swing (ECS) Fox Trot, Rumba, and Tango. Bud and Linda will teach the WCS and ECS lessons; Sr. Miguel Renaga, who presently teaches Tango on Tuesday evenings at El Nopal in Tijuana, will give Tango lessons; and they are looking for additional instructors. The kickoff and first dance exhibition will be held on Friday, January 8, 2010 at 8:00 p.m. Drinks and hors d’oeuvres will be available, and the first two-hour optional dance lesson will follow the exhibition. 2bud@roadrunner.com
