Fighting Cancer with Tacos!
The idea for Locos Mocos originated in 1997 at the Baja 1000. A group of guys were there in support of the Toyota effort of Ivan Stewart. When Ivan dropped out due to a rare mechanical problem they decided to go find a remote spot to watch the rest of the race. They ended up at “Tres Hermanos” (three brothers). While they were there, they ended up helping a few other racers and came up with an idea.
Since all of them would be going to the races anyway, why not set up a pit for whoever needs help in the most remote place on the course.
During the 1998 Baja 1000 they had a group of 11 guys together and set up south of San Juanico. Since then they have pitted every Baja 1000, many Baja 500`s and San Felipe 250`s as well. Those guys really enjoy Baja, off roading and quite a few of them spend time inside of off road race cars when not pitting others.
Of the original 11 guys they have expanded to have "members" from all over the US. Most in California but some come from as far away as North Carolina, Alabama and Texas. They`ve had as many as 50 folks helping in the pits at some races. The Locos Mocos Pit Crew have no meetings, no dues, no officers and no rules. They just exist bonded by their passion for Baja and off road racing.
For the 2009 SCORE Baja 1000 the Locos Mocos pit crew will do more than run a pit - they`ll be cooking up their Locos Mocos Pit Tacos at Borrego Junction to generate funds for the Castro-Limon Foundation for Baja kids with cancer.
Based in Tijuana, the Castro-Limon Foundation exists to provide moral and economic support for low-income and orphaned children afflicted with this serious disease.
They`re asking for donations to help pay for ingredients so that all proceeds go to helping the kids. If you can spare anything, it`ll help. Donations of $100 or more will get your logo on their big taco sign.

During the next Baja 1000, the Locos Mocos Pit Crew will help out anybody who stops in their pit. They weld `em, bolt `em back together, fill the oil, fix the brakes, feed `em, water `em and do whatever they can to get them back in the race. All at no charge… So this 2009 the Locos Mocos Pit Crew promise to fix your racer as well as your hunger. If you need more information please log onto www.locosmocos.com
