Beach Clean-Up in Baja Saturday, Sep. 20th
NEIGHBORS, FRIENDS & BEACH LOVERS!
JOIN US FOR THE BEACH CLEAN-UP NEXT SATURDAY!
WHEN: 8:00 AM, Saturday, September 20th
WHERE: South Park
We are privileged to be included in the California Coastal Commission beach clean up this year (http://cleanupday.org). Our friends at Projecto Fronterizo have arranged for us to be the 4th site in Tijuana (http://www.proyectofronterizo.org.mx). This is a GLOBAL beach clean up, and in Baja, people will be cleaning the beaches from Tijuana to Ensenada .
We will be receiving supplies – plastic gloves, bags for trash and recyclables, and trash pick-up for free. This also means that we have some work to do. After we collect the trash and recyclables, we will have to weigh and count them. We will report our numbers to Projecto Fronterizo by noon on Saturday. All of this information will be reported to the California Coastal Commission and then submitted to the Global Commission. This will help to understand the condition and health of the beaches all over the world.
In order to meet the noon deadline, we need enough people to clean our three beaches at the same time. We will form teams of 3 people: 1 person to pick up trash, 1 to separate recyclables and 1 to record the things we collect. We have volunteer Beach Captains for each of our beaches. These Beach Captains will help the teams with instructions, supplies and collection. Our Beach Captains are:
North Beach – Elmer Gonzales
Central Beach – Herta Calvo
South Beach – Hal Robinson
