Volunteer Greeters Wanted!
More Volunteer Greeters Wanted For New
Rosarito Beach Visitor Information Program
ROSARITO BEACH ---This popular tourist destination has started a new visitor information program this summer and is seeking additional volunteers to help staff it, according to Cesar Rivera, president of the city’s Convention & Visitors Bureau.
“The program is similar to the one used very successfully by the San Diego Convention & Visitors Bureau,” said Rivera. “We have about 14 people who have volunteered to be greeters but we can use more.”
“Since most of our visitors are from the U.S. , we’re especially interested in volunteers from Rosarito’s large U.S. community, but the program is open to anyone who speaks English well.”
Right now the program consists of an information table placed across from the Festival Plaza hotel on weekends from 10 to 4. Meanwhile, work is being done so the yellow visitor center on the scenic road can be opened and used.
Volunteer greeters are scheduled for two-hour shifts and are asked to work at least four hours per month.
The summer greeter program started several weeks ago and will continue through Labor Day but might be expanded after the freeway center opens.
“We’re looking for people who enjoy meeting and helping others and have a few hours a month they would like to donate,” Rivera said. “Although these are volunteer positions, we hope to have some restaurant and other gift certificates as appreciation.”
Charly Kimm, president of the Cruz Roja volunteers, and Anne Hines, president of the United Society of Baja California, have expressed interest in helping recruit volunteers..
“About 14,000 U.S. citizens live in Rosarito,” Rivera said. “The success of groups such as Cruz Roja and the USBC show they have the desire to be strongly involved with the community. We hope this program will be one more excellent outlet for them.”
The Convention & Visitors Bureau (COTUCO) also has an office off Boulevard Benito Juarez, near the Oceana Towers .
The information centers will provide information, assistance and might eventually expand to include other services for visitors and expatriate residents of Rosarito.
“Rosarito has more than one million visitors a year,” Rivera said. “We want to provide them the best information and assistance possible, so that their stay here will be a wonderful one,”
